You’ve tried everything you can think of to feel better, but nothing’s sticking.
I’m a trauma-focused EMDR therapist based in Plymouth, MA, offering in-person therapy on the South Shore and online EMDR therapy across Massachusetts for high-functioning, overwhelmed adults who are ready to heal what is happening beneath the surface.
You may understand exactly why you react the way you do, and still find that your body responds as if the danger is happening now. That can be exhausting and confusing, especially when you have already done a lot of insight-based work. EMDR offers a different way in. Rather than only talking about the past, we work with your brain and nervous system so old experiences can begin to feel truly resolved instead of constantly reactivated.
EMDR can help soften triggers, shift long-held patterns, and restore a deeper sense of safety and trust in yourself. For clients looking for a more immersive approach to deeper work, intensives may also be an option.
EMDR works with your brain and nervous system to soften triggers and restore trust in yourself.
EMDR therapy can help you trust yourself more and move through your day with steadier calm
EMDR is an evidence-based method that helps the brain reprocess stuck memories so they lose their charge.
-
Your brain is built to heal. Under stress, different parts of the brain work together—the amygdala (your internal alarm), the hippocampus (your memory and context center), and the prefrontal cortex (your wise planner and problem-solver). Often, this system processes hard experiences on its own. But when something is too overwhelming or too much for too long, the memories can get “stuck,” and your brain may need support to finish the healing work.
That’s where EMDR comes in. When we’ve been through something difficult, our natural fight, flight, or freeze responses can linger. You might notice vivid images, intrusive thoughts, or intense emotions that make it feel like you’re right back in the moment—or frozen there. EMDR helps your brain reprocess those memories so they’re stored in a way that feels settled and in the past. You still remember what happened, but the alarm quiets, your body can relax, and you gain more choice in how you feel and respond.
-
• Triggers feel less intense and pass more quickly
• Self-talk softens and feels more accurate
• Sleep, energy, and boundaries improve as your system steadies
• You feel more present, less pulled into the past -
EMDR therapy is a gentle, evidence-based approach that helps both kids and adults heal what’s been too heavy to carry alone. I use EMDR to support a wide range of concerns, including:
Anxiety, panic, and specific phobias
Chronic illness–related stress and medical trauma
Depression and mood challenges (including bipolar spectrum)
Dissociation and feeling “checked out” or disconnected
Disordered eating and body image concerns
Grief and loss — recent or long-held
Persistent pain and the emotional weight that comes with it
Performance anxiety (work, school, creative, athletic)
Long-standing personality patterns that create distress
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and trauma-related symptoms
Healing after sexual assault
Sleep difficulties and nightmares
Substance use and patterns of addiction
Histories of violence, abuse, or neglect
If you see yourself anywhere on this list — or even if you’re not sure where you fit — we can talk about whether EMDR is the right next step for you.
-
• We start with safety and skills so your nervous system feels supported
• We map targets and choose one memory or theme at a time
• Short sets of eye movements or taps with calm check-ins between each set
• You can slow down, pause, or stop at any point
• We close every session grounded and plan simple aftercare

It depends on your history and goals. A single incident can shift in a handful of EMDR sessions. Complex or long-standing patterns take more time. We will check progress often and adjust together.
-
You may feel tired, lighter, or a bit stirred up for a day or two. Plan simple care, hydrate, and move gently. Jot down any dreams or shifts so we can review next time.

Yes. We use a secure platform and tools like on-screen eye movements or self-tapping. You will need a private space, a stable internet connection, and headphones if we use tones.
